Tell us about your connection to Wigtown and the Book Festival
The first time I came to Wigtown, from Los Angeles, was for the book festival. It was because of the adventures I had there, and the people I met that I stayed.
Sum up your festival experience in 5 words
A rural Scottish literary Mardi-Gras.
What's your favourite festival memory?
There are too many. Should I talk about the first ever Wigtown's Got Talent, the naked swimming, or the authors and talks themselves? One of my favourite festival memories is not even mine. That's what happens at the festival, the collective mythology becomes everyone's experience. It is the moment Ollie, an uninvited "documentary African filmmaker" and not-so-in-the-closet Mugabi supporter, was having trouble digging into his lobster lunch. Slamming down his fork, the claw went airborne, over the heads of the authors and proceeded to hit Wigtown's festival director in the head.
Who would be your dream author to appear at the Festival?
Margaret Atwood.
