Dreams for the Future Festival

Now that Book Week Scotland is over, if you’re looking for some fun events over the next week, then it's worth heading to Dumfries for the Dreams for the Future Festival, a series of events planned with a sprinkling of fairy dust by the Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust and JMB Creatives to celebrate Scotland’s Year of Young People.

The festival, which also includes performances and workshops for local schools, started with Staged! on 24th November at Dumfries Academy, an evening showcasing the musical and performance talent of young people in Dumfries & Galloway, and attended by Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust patron Joanna Lumley.

The week’s other events include a lecture by former Children and Young People’s Commissioner Tam Baillie, promoting the essential role of play in children’s development, and a workshop for aspiring young writers by well-known YA author Cathy Cassidy.

On Saturday 1st December there’ll be a community takeover day at J.M. Barrie’s old stomping ground Moat Brae House, which was also the inspiration behind Peter Pan and Neverland. JMB Creatives, and other youth groups from across Dumfries, are offering the general public a taste of some of the activities that will be on offer at the new National Centre for Children’s Literature and Storytelling when it opens in Spring 2019.

Finally, on Sunday 2nd December, is the CrocRock Carnival in Dumfries town centre, which will be followed by the Christmas lights switch-on.
