Family fun at an affordable price with our Family Day Pass

Wigtown Book Festival has always been a family affair and part of our mission from the beginning has been to encourage a love of stories in our young people. This year our award-winning authors include Charlie and Lola creator, Lauren Child; Scottish Carnegie Medal-nominated, Lari Don; and Blue Peter Award-winning fantasy author, Vashti Hardy. We're also throwing a stargazing party with Annaliese Avery, daily family yoga, and a family garden party with festival mascot Big Wig!

For £20, our Family Day Passes include five tickets to any children's event on the date of Pass purchased, for as many events as you like. Day Passes are available for 24 September, 25 September and 1 October, during which our children's events take place. Tickets are limited to two adults per Family Pass and include children from age 0-13.

Please note: as our YA programme is sponsored, children aged 13-18 are entitled to free tickets to any event.

Featuring Big Wig family rhyme time, Charlie and Lola's Lauren child on her latest creations and a world-building workshop with Blue Peter Book Award-winner, Vashti Hardy. Join Petr Horacek's characters Tom and Mot for story time and craft, retelling fairy tales with Emma Carrol and The Little Match Girl Strikes Back, and enjoy a first foray into stargazing with astronomy enthusiast, Annaliese Avery.

Including an audience with Jonathan Meres and his new book Scaredy Bat, translated into polish, a map-making workshop with extraordinary picture-book author Vivian French, Alan McClure and Annaliese Avery introducing their latest books, and Two in a Barrel; a theatre performance for children featuring two friends stuck on an island of rubbish.

Our final day of family fun starts with family yoga with Yoga Shona, learning scots and drawing characters with Susi Briggs and The Wee Kirkcudbright Centipede, and theatrics and spells with Performance Collective Stranraer in their show Bippity. Holly Sterling is bringing marshal arts to the Machars with her new book Karate Kids, mystery and magic and writing with dyslexia will be discussed with Eve Wersocki-Morris' and her debut novel The Bird Singers, and long-standing storyteller and Carnegie-nominated Lari Don will be telling The Tall Tale of the Giant's Causeway. With quizzes and activities, GP and BBC presenter Dr Punam Krishan will be telling us all about life in the NHS and whether you have what it takes to become a doctor.
