Welcome to the 2013 festival
For 10 days in autumn, Wigtown Book Festival celebrates great writing and passionate debate in the unique setting of Scotland’s National Book Town. This year’s programme is stronger than ever, with more events on week days, a new programme for teens, and extra evening entertainment that ranges from armchair philosophy and theatre, to author dinners.
A Wigtown Festival is never only about the books. From foraging on the Solway saltmarsh to walking in the steps of The Wicker Man, we invite you to embrace Galloway’s great outdoors. Find a hidden castle. Take a dip. Share a gourmet campfire supper. Or cycle country lanes by night, under Europe’s darkest skies.
Wigtown offers space to explore and to think, which makes it the perfect place to engage with some of today’s best writers and brightest minds. Serendipity lurks on the shelves of its secondhand bookshops, too. Happy browsing.
We wish to thank the myriad individuals and organisation who have made this year’s festival possible – in particular the Barcapel Foundation, the Foyle Foundation, the Holywood Trust and our new principal sponsor, Scottish Power. With their help, we are turning over yet another new page.
