Venues

The main Festival takes over the centre of Wigtown every autumn, with events also being held in the wider local area.

Main Venues


  • The Festival Marquee will be located at the centre of Wigtown in the The Louis McGuffie VC Memorial Gardens (also known as the Gardens)

  • Wigtown County Buildings is located in Wigtown Square. It contains:

    - The Main Hall
    - The Festival Cafe
    - The Festival Book Shop
    - The Visitor Centre
    - The Osprey Room
    - The Library

  • The McNeillie Tent will be located in the garden behind The Old Bank Bookshop in Wigtown Square, 7 South Main Street

  • The Kist Marquee, our showcase of Dumfries and Galloway fine food and drink and local art, will be located outside the County Buildings.

Big Wig - Events for Children and Families

  • Most children and family events will take place in The Burrow, which is located outside the County Buildings

Wigtown YA - Events for Young People

  • Most Wigtown YA events will take place in The Osprey Room, which is located on the third floor of the County Buildings


All of the above venues are within five minutes’ walk of one another.

Please note that only assistance dogs are permitted into Wigtown Book Festival venues and on Wigtown Book Festival walks.
